Two of the nominees are veterans who have received bipartisan support from their state legislatures.
The Senate Judiciary Committee questioned President Joe Biden’s latest nominees on Wednesday. The nominees are both former Navy Reserve officers selected to serve on separate federal appeals courts. Joshua Kolar, who currently serves as a Magistrate Judge in Hammond, Indiana, was nominated to the Chicago-based 7th Circuit Court of Appeals. Rich Federico, a federal public defender and military judge, was nominated to the Denver-based 10th Circuit Court of Appeals.
Senators Dick Durbin of Illinois and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, the panel’s two leading members, noted that both nominees receive bipartisan support from their respective state senators. This support is not necessary for the nominees’ advancement, but the committee leaders were encouraged by these additional votes of confidence.
“These senators and the White House Counsel’s Office have shown once again this process can work when people of goodwill meet together and do their best,” Senator Durbin said.
